Melrose is a spacious, ground floor holiday apartment set right in the middle of Amble, just a short walk to the shops, pubs and restaurants. Located on the roadside with private parking to the rear and plenty of locked space to keep motorbikes and cycles. Melrose is perfect for couples looking for a base to tour the county, and is ideal for cyclists and walkers. With generous proportioned rooms and a rear drying area, it is a great base to stay for a short break or week’s holiday.

Amble is called ’the friendliest port’ and the locals embrace this. The harbour is home to a busy Sunday market popular with locals and visitors, and here you can also see the cute pod-style shopping outlets. The harbour area has two great fish and chip shops, and a couple of more upmarket restaurants specialising in fish.

Boat trips to Coquet Island can also be taken here. From the harbour, the views towards Warkworth Castle are lovely on a clear day and you can walk to Warkworth from Amble along past the marina and river.

Nearby Warkworth is a pretty, picture postcard style village dominated by the castle which sits at the top of the village, and the pubs and cafés here are all worth a visit. Amble is the start of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching along the coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed with miles of golden beaches and castles. Make sure you visit Holy Island, which was featured in local author L.J. Ross’ novel, but make sure you check the tide tables to access the causeway.

No trip to Amble is complete without a visit to Alnwick, 10 miles away, where you can visit the Duke of Northumberland’s home of Alnwick Castle, more famed for featuring in the Harry Potter films as well as a Downton Abbey Christmas edition. Northumberland doesn’t just have a coastline, it also has a magnificent Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park. Travel West to Hadrian’s Wall towards Corbridge, easily reachable from Amble. This ground floor apartment is ideal for couples, particularly handy if you want to leave your car behind and meander down to one of the restaurants for an evening meal and drink. Beach ¾ mile. Shop and restaurant 500 yards, pub 300 yards
