Staying in Berkshire for a weekend - escape London!
Editors notes: I once stayed in a 3 bed cottage for short term holiday rent in Eastbury, near Hungerford. It has undergone a full renovation, the property was perfect for a weekend cottage, a young family or couple wanting to get out of London for the weekend, or for travellers from abroad wanting to spend time in 'middle England'. Nestled in a small picturesque village called Eastbury in the valley of the racehorse, just off the M4, it was just perfect!
The nearest stations to Eastbury are Hungerford - 10mins, Newbury - 25mins, Didcot -30mins which all have direct trains to London for commuting in about 40-50mins. Lambourn is 2 miles away and has pharmacy, Co-op, hardware store and GP. Wantage 15mins drive with Waitrose, Hungerford 10mins with Tesco and Marlborough 25 mins. The village is home to one of the best gastro pubs in the area called The Plough and the neighbouring larger village, East Garston, has a village cafe and buzzy pub, the Queens Arms, with excellent bar and food hosting numerous events throughout the year. Its a great part of Berkshire to stay.
