Extra Amenities

Spectacular Golden Hill Fort was constructed in a hexagonal shape, during the Victorian era, between 1860 and 1868, one of the forty-four Palmerston Fort and Battery defences that were built to protect England from the growing threat of invasion by the French navy. Within this, the developers have succeeded in preserving the Fort’s historic and architectural significance and maintained many original features, whilst adding the latest in modern conveniences. The Officers’ Mess is a unique, Grade I listed, luxurious five-bedroomed, four bathroom house.
Internally, the property offers brick-barrel vaulted ceilings, with coloured LED mood lighting and solid oak floors. On the ground floor, there is an enormous, comfortable dual-aspect living area, with bespoke leather and wool three and four-seater settees, sumptuous rugs and a 65" surround-sound television. There is also an extensive dining table with brown leather chairs, which seats 10-12 people and a desk which is ideal for those who need to work whilst away from home.

This room links through an arched walkway, to the impressive, bespoke kitchen/breakfast room. The kitchen is fitted with white marble worktops and black, high-gloss units plus integrated Neff appliances including a coffee machine, microwave and two ovens, together with a large integrated freezer, fridge and dishwasher. Through another arched walkway, there is also a snug, which makes a fabulous TV room.
On the first floor, there are five bedrooms, all with stunning, brick-vaulted ceilings. The extensive Master Bedroom Suite (The General’s Room) includes an impressive, super-king-size four-poster bed and glimpses across the Solent to the mainland. Leading off from this are a large dressing room, a gigantic en-suite bathroom with his and her basins (situated in the overhanging shooting gallery) and an observation gallery overlooking the courtyard with central hexagonal fountain. There are two other large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and two which share a well-fitted family bathroom. All bedrooms have hairdryers.

On the hexagonal roof of the fort (the only Grade I listed building with a rooftop garden in the UK), the communal landscaped gardens afford 360 degree views across the Solent, English Channel and rolling countryside, and there is plenty of room to relax with family and friends. There is parking in the courtyard, directly in front of the house and the development is accessed through a ‘glacis’ (brick built tunnel through the surrounding defensive earthworks) with two electric activated gates.
The fort is surrounding by 50-acres of woodland known as the Golden Hill Country Park, with footpaths that also lead to Freshwater village and the beach. It is just minutes from Yarmouth Ferry Terminal whilst Freshwater Bay, Colwell Bay, Alum Bay with its multi-coloured sands, the famous Needles Rocks and Tapnell Farm Park are just some of the attractions close by. For those that appreciate history, quality, with high levels of comfort and space, this is the property for you
