Self-catering holiday cottages in Freshwater, Isle of Wight

Freshwater is located on the far western extremity of the Isle and is famed for both its wonderful bay and the wonderful geology and coastal rock formations. The beach, which although sandy, does get covered with chalk from the nearby cliffs which visitors love to collect as a souvenir. Freshwater village was also the home of the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, after whom the hills above the village, popular with walkers and ramblers, are named. Worth a visit is St Agnes Church which is the only thatched church on the Isle.

stunning coastal scenery is everywhere, holiday cottages near the seaside for families and walkers (cliff side coastal paths and sandy beaches) to explore. There is a fast ferry across the Solent, and many cottages are pet friendly - so the dog can stay too!

Staying in Freshwater

Aside from the magnificent cliffs, there are several must-see sights near (but not within) the village, including the Needles lighthouse and the Old Battery Victorian fort (and the nearby Needles Attraction with chairlift to the beach and a 4D cinema), Farringford House (home of Alfred Lord Tennyson), Compton Bay where dinosaur footprints can be seen at low tide and Dimbola Lodge (home of Julia Margaret Cameron, the famed photographer). Don’t forget the “Mermaid” and “Stag” rock formations on the coast that are a must for photographers. For the self-catering cottage holidaymaker, there are several stores, supermarket and if you want a break from the kitchen, places to eat and drink around the village.
