A great base from which to explore the area of Sussex around Rye Winchelsea and Northiam as well as the beautiful gardens of stately homes in Kent. Appletree Cottage is a Grade II listed period property dating back to circa 1760 and recently restored. With beamed ceilings, an inglenook fireplace and large cottage garden it is in an ideal position to explore the areas of Kent Sussex and the beaches of the south coast. The property is located on the edge of the village of Peasmarsh between Rye and Northiam. You enter the property via a stable door straight into the double aspect well equipped kitchen. The combined lounge and dining area has a large inglenook fireplace with open fire and comfy sofas making this beamed room a lovely place to unwind in after a day exploring. There are two light and airy double bedrooms with views across the gardens. The bathroom is situated on the ground floor with a fixed over head shower and bath. The property has a patio area conveniently situated outside the kitchen for you to enjoy outside.
Appletree Cottage is set in a delightful rural location. There is a nearby superstore where you can purchase locally sourced produce and homemade cakes to enjoy after your walk home.

Whichever direction you choose you will find idealic country walks and local village pubs. Peasmarsh is a small village about 3 miles from the Ancient Cinque Port of Rye and the Domesday Village of Iden is 2 miles further on. The coast is within easy reach and the area boasts a host of tourist and leisure attractions including Great Dixter Bodiam Castle and Smallhythe Place.
There is beautiful countryside to explore whether on foot, bike or by car. Several quaint village pubs to enjoy a meal or afternoon coffee are all within walking distance of the property. Just 3 miles away the medieval town of Rye sits on the hill where you can trace the footsteps of smugglers from years gone by. Visit the Heritage Centre and see the Town Model ’Sound and Light Show’. or for those feeling brave. sign up for the ghost tour which runs on certain dates throughout the year. For those wanting to venture back to the time of steam trains visit Kent And East Sussex Railway and take a trip on one of the lovely old steam trains. About 8½ miles away is the town of Tenterden with its quaint antique shopstea and coffee rooms or take a tour of the local award winning Chapel Down vineyard.


Visit the moated castle at Bodiam, built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge a former knight of Edward III, only about a 20-minute drive away. Various special events for children run throughout the year and cater for all ages. Those wishing to visit London for the day can catch a train from Rye to Ashford or Hastings and pick up a connecting train. From Ashford International Station you can choose the high speed train to St Pancras and arrive within 40 minutes. Those wishing to visit the continent for the day can pick up the Eurostar at Ashford International Station or go via the ferries at Dover or The Channel Tunnel Terminal near Folkestone about 25 miles away. Places to visit include the Kent and East Sussex Railway or Great Dixter. Various festivals throughout the year include Rye Maritime Festival in August, Rye Arts Festival in September, The Taste of Rye Food Festival in October and Rye Bonfire Night in November.
