Staying in Petersfield
Petersfield town is also well known for the various free festivals held throughout the year including May bank holiday, summer and Christmas markets. Just behind the High Street is the Physic Garden, modelled on a typical 17th century gentleman’s garden and possibly one of the more unusual of English gardens. It’s a peaceful haven full of herbs and medicinal plants and a great place for a little rest and relaxation, and they don’t mind you taking lunch in with you.
As would be expected from a market town, there are plenty of independent local shops, with a smattering of multi-nationals, so everything you need for your self-catering holiday cottage is to hand. For walkers and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages there’s the downlands and woodlands of the town’s Heath and Pond, as well as the larger Queen Elizabeth Country Park located 4 miles south of the town in the South Downs National Park. Tourist accommodation should be booked well in advance, we rarely see last-minute cottages in Petersfield.
