Great for families or couples looking for a week’s holiday, short break or midweek escape, Hill House Bakery is a well-furnished two bedroom apartment occupying the ground floor of the owner’s main residence, moments from Ventnor’s town centre and esplanade. Refurbished in 2018 it’s beautifully presented and also has its own private decked courtyard area and parking space. Guests booking Hill House Bakery can receive discounted ferry travel, arranged directly with the owner.
Ventnor is a Victorian seaside town situated on the southern side of the Isle of Wight, right in the heart of the famous Undercliff, much of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visitors will find a great variety of lovely seaside tea shops, pubs and restaurants dotted along the esplanade serving locally caught fish and locally brewed ales.
There are also some quirky and bespoke shops, a park and a children’s paddling pool. The town, which for the most part is built on the steep hill leading to the beach, retains its original seaside charm and makes a great day out for all the family.
Sheltered from the north by St Boniface Downs, owned by the National Trust, Ventnor benefits from its own micro-climate which provides an ideal haven for a variety of flora and fauna. The neighbouring village of Bonchurch lies just to the east of Ventnor and is renowned for its literary connections; writers and poets such as Dickens, Stackpole and Swinburn all resided here for a time. Dickens remarked, ‘the prettiest place I ever saw in my life, at home or abroad’.
Explore the rock pools, enjoy great local walks and easy access to the many attractions the Isle of Wight has to offer. Outdoor pursuits on the island are well catered for and include horse riding, fishing, cycling, paragliding, water sports and golf. There are numerous attractions for all ages across the island including The Needles with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay. You can also visit Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and its gardens, as well as Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK, Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Tapnell Farm Park, Carisbrooke Castle or the sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards
