Melville Lodge is a stunning, south-facing, detached Victorian family home which can accommodate up to ten guests with a further four guests in the adjoining annexe. The main house was built around 1876 and is the epitome of the grand Victorian villa. It was formerly used as a vicarage for the nearby St Catherine’s Church. The attached annexe at the rear can be accessed through the main house and has a further two bedrooms making it ideal for two families, offering some independence and privacy from the rest of the group.
The house is situated in a prestigious location on the outskirts of the bustling town of Ventnor with its shops, beach and many restaurants, and boasts numerous period features including fireplaces with working wood burners, decorative cornicing, high ceilings and large spacious rooms. The kitchen/dining room is extremely well-equipped and the living room has a cosy wood burner and a lovely bay window.
Outside, the gardens are private and of a generous size. To the front of the property is a glazed verandah leading to a lawnedgarden with a palm tree and views across to the award-winning Ventnor Park with its stream, bandstand, putting green and outside gym.

There is a driveway with parking for up to three vehicles and a single garage which can be used for the storage of bicycles. The rear garden is spacious and private with a lawn and gated access to a raised terrace area, ideal for dining al fresco.
The property is located a short walk from the popular Ventnor Botanical Gardens and the beautiful Steephill Cove beach. Steephill is a traditional, unspoilt fishing cove with a beach of sand and shingle, nestled between rocky cliffs and smugglers’ coves. The bay has no road access, which makes it a unique hidden away gem. Find your way down the pathways and you can dine on the freshest crab and lobster. See what you can find hidden amongst the rock pools and watch the children playing on the beach whilst sitting back and relaxing in your deckchairs.
The Victorian seaside town of Ventnor has a number of lovely seaside tea shops, pubs and restaurants dotted along the esplanade.

There are also some quirky and bespoke shops, the afore mentioned award-winning park and a children’s paddling pool. The town, which for the most part is built on the steep hill leading to the beach, retains its original seaside charm, and makes a great day out for all the family.
Sea and cliff walks can be found along the coastal paths in both directions from the property, and outdoor pursuits on the island are well catered for including horse riding, fishing, cycling, paragliding, water sports and golf. There are numerous attractions to discover for all ages, including The Needles with its chairlift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay. Why not pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence, Osborne House and its gardens, Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK, Tapnell Farm Park, Carisbrooke Castle or the sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes. The Isle of Wight has so much to offer its visitors, you’re sure to return! Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile
