Dating from the 1700s and situated in the heart of the village of Welburn in the picturesque Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this charming stone-built, detached cottage has been carefully renovated, and cleverly combines contemporary fixtures and fittings with a traditional period charm. The secluded garden benefits from a York stone flagged terrace, outdoor seating and a Victorian summerhouse. The renowned village inn stands just a few yards from the cottage and there is a highly regarded village shop/bakery and café. The stately home of Castle Howard is just a 5-minute drive away, a magnificent Baroque mansion, known to many as ‘Brideshead Revisited’, with woodland and lakeside walks, an interesting programme of events, including a Christmas experience like no other starting from mid November until the New Year, restaurant and an excellent farm shop.
Numerous walking trails lead from the doorstep and more can be found in the North Yorkshire Moors and by venturing east to the little-known gem of the Yorkshire Wolds. Excellent mountain biking is available at nearby Dalby Forest and Sutton Bank Trail centres. Discover Malton, 5 miles, ‘Yorkshire’s Food Capital’ with its popular food festival and myriad artisan producers, and take a trip aboard the famous steam train from Pickering to the fishing port of Whitby. Enjoy the traditional seaside resorts of Scarborough and Filey, and the quaint fishing villages of Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes, or you can visit abbey ruins at Rievaulx, Byland and Kirkham Priory.
National Trust houses can be found at Nunnington and Beningbrough, and the surrounding area offers numerous gastro pubs and restaurants. The ancient walled city of York is easily accessible, 14 miles, and appeals to all ages at any time of year with its exquisite architecture, iconic minster, museums, theatres and abundance of festivals including the renown Viking Festival during the month of February. With so much to do, so many places to explore and so many experiences to enjoy Sunny Cottage provides high quality accommodation throughout the full year. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 350 yard
