This detached, unique 19th-century stone-built farm mill, complete with water wheel, has been converted to a good standard resulting in lovely, contemporary holiday accommodation. The Old Mill has plenty of history to admire, it forms part of East Newtown, a farmstead situated on the branch of the Routing Burn above the southern banks of the River Coquet. Settlement and farming at Newtown began in 1249 and you can still see the earthworks, banks and hollows of this thriving medieval settlement in the field above East Newtown, from the public right of way. Situated inside the Northumberland National Park, with a backdrop of the Simonside Hills and a pleasant descent to the lovely Coquet valley above the village of Rothbury, The Old Mill is an excellent base from which to explore the region.
Step outside and access the footpath that leads to Newtown Park, the Forestry Commision walks, the crags and the 1410 foot high summit of Simonside. St Oswald’s Way passes close by at Lordenshaws. Rothbury enjoys many amenities including traditional pubs, coffee shops, bakers, butchers, galleries and leisure facilities. There are pleasant riverside walks and a playground for children.
The glorious Northumberland countryside - still a well-kept secret, just waits to be explored and The Old Mill is a convenient and central base. The Old Mill is located within the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, an area that has been awarded Gold Tier status, which is the highest rating for viewing stars. Other local attractions include Cragside Estate, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Wallington House and Gardens, and many more! There is an electric car charging point, payable on a meter. Shops, pubs and restaurants 2 mile
Need a hand deciding - apartment or self-catering beach holiday? North East England is a great holiday destination. There are many dog friendly holidays in Durham and North Pennines, Alnwick Castle and Gardens or Northumberland - some have electric car charging points.
