Mill House on the Brooks is the perfect large holiday accommodation to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family. It is built on the same field as the Hardham Roman Camp with the Roman Road of Stane Street passing close by. This fabulous building is in the most beautiful rural setting within the South Downs National Park offering seclusion but with numerous options for activities and attractions within a short distance. This beautifully designed and constructed house has been developed with guests in mind with exposed beams creating a vaulted living space.
The lounge is a perfect spot to sit and watch the wildlife through the patio doors which can be opened to enjoy inside/outside relaxation on those perfectly clement summer evenings. The spacious dining area has a great table space for family meals or a group discussion on where to head for the best walks over a cup of morning coffee. The kitchen is well-equipped and has all the modern conveniences you would need during your stay. Outside there is a large stone patio area with views down to Rother Valley an undisturbed valley tucked away next to the Arun Valley.
There are four individually designed and decorated bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms.
There are many walks and bridleways wending their way through this area and the views of the brookland meadows with wild flowers, dragonflies and wetland birds is splendid. Mill on the Brooks falls within the boundary of the South Downs National Park. Pulborough Brooks is just a mile away in the Arun valley and has many excellent walks across the Brooks and along the banks of the River Arun offering uninterrupted views south towards the South Downs. Part of the Brooks contains one of the RSPB’s major reserves in the south and just two miles away. The River Rother passes to the side of the house offering half a mile of private fishing and along its banks you have easy access to the start of the Rother Valley Walk and a network of footpaths that will encourage you to walk and enjoy such complete solitude.
Find yourself watching cormorants, buzzards, heron, huge numbers of duck and geese, all depending on the season. Just four miles from Mill House and you can visit Parham House a magnificent Elizabethan country house with beautiful formal gardens and open parkland. The rooms are graced with fresh flowers cut daily from the four acre walled garden. The main rooms are the Great Hall, Great Chamber and the Long Gallery which at the top of the house does leave a tremendous visual impression. During the year Parham hosts a number of popular house and garden weekends.
A short drive to the historic market town of Petworth and stately home Petworth House and deer park which was landscaped by Capability Brown. The house and its grounds are now owned by the National Trust. The magnificent country house contains an internationally renowned art collection with numerous works by Turner. Petworth itself was immortalised in his paintings. The town is full of quaint houses and cottages many within their own courtyard settings. They are interspersed with antique shops and tea rooms so it makes the ideal place for a stroll following a visit to Petworth House and Park.
Both Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby holding many prestigious meetings throughout the year. Goodwood is also renowned for their wonderful motor sports meetings the Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Revival which boast an intoxicating mix of cars, stars and motorsport royalty. Visit the cathedral city of Chichester just a thirty minute drive with its excellent Festival Theatre which is noted not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured here. You may also consider a trip to Arundel Castle with its 1000 year history, home to the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk which is a twenty minute drive away, or explore the south coast and its beaches. Littlehampton which is within 30 minutes drive is a beautiful length of unspoilt beach designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub ½ mile.
