Staying toasty in the winter with wool insulation and a log burner and cool in the summer under the canopy this hut is the perfect retreat to the country and to reconnect with nature and yourself. Moat Farm is run for wildlife and for the last 25 years, the owners have worked hard on cultivating a nature-rich, diverse landscape. The farm is bursting with rare and endangered species of plants, butterflies, birds bees and mammals. Everything they do on the farm is for the protection and preservation of the future for these species and our planet.
The owners look forward to sharing their love for these species with you! They have Turtle doves, 23 Nightingale territories, several pairs of breeding barn owls that can often be seen hunting at dusk, tawny owls, kestrels, warblers and finches. They have recently found not only wild honey bees and bumble bees but also rare Long-horned bees foraging in their field-edge brambles. Grass snakes and slow worms are regularly seen, along with great crested newts and toads in the early spring.
They have noted 26 species of butterfly around the farm and its woodlands to date. Marbled White are numerous alongside Ringlets, Meadow Browns, Small Coppers, Blues and Skippers. Grizzled Skippers were seen regularly until the last two summers giving rise to concern. Purple Hairstreak can be found in the tops of the oak trees. Other woodland butterflies include Silver Washed Fritillary and White Admiral. Dormice and Harvest Mice are regularly encountered.
