Extra Amenities
Southview is a wonderful 16th- century stone cottage and is the first or last house in the village, depending on which direction you are coming from, and is surrounded by agricultural fields on 3 sides. The property adjoins New Road, a quiet lane used only for access. It enjoys an enclosed garden which is ideal for dogs and has a patio area for barbecues in a garden recess, for which all equipment is provided. There is ample car parking for one car and a second car can be accommodated, if necessary.
Inside, the cottage provides two comfortable kingsize bedrooms, both of which can be converted into twin beds if preferred, and both are fitted with fully programmable radiators so you should never be cold. Both overlook fields often full of farm animals or wildlife, especially birds - geese and ducks frequently fly over and are a sight to behold. Downstairs is a large living/dining room with two double settees, TV, DVD player and a dining table.
The living room has a wooden floor which adds to the cottage feel, and there is a wood burner which is always laid and ready to light upon arrival. The tiled shower room has a large multi-function shower cubicle with 3 water flow options. The well-equipped kitchen includes a washing machine together with all the day to day kitchen equipment you would expect, and the owners are always happy to take delivery of online supermarket shopping orders for delivery on your day of arrival.
To the west you will find the Newtown Nature Reserve (30-minute walk), a haven of peace and tranquillity and infiltrated by the waters of the Newtown River. To the south is a fine, 40-minute walk to the peaceful beach, characterised by driftwood of all shapes and sizes. To the east you will reach Parkhurst Forest (30-minute walk), the largest forest on the island, with a network of hiking paths.
To the north you can easily reach the Downs (45-minute walk) in the island’s middle where, in some places, you can see the entire island coastline and make out the shape of the island.
There are three pubs which offer good food and can be reached in about 2 miles along quiet country roads. The island’s shopping centre is in Newport just 3 miles away where you will find a number of supermarkets for all your needs. Further afield, nothing on the Isle of Wight is that far away. On an island 26 miles x 10 miles you will never drive more than 45 minutes to reach a destination and you will find Southview offers booklets, maps and leaflets on most island attractions. The owners live on site and are always available to answer any questions you might have! Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub restaurant 2 miles.
