Self-catering holiday cottages near Uckfield

Uckfield sits on the River Uck (a tributary of the River Ouse) on the southern edge of the High Weald, an ancient woodland area (of Outstanding Natural Beauty) where it is said cricket ‘may have’ originated just prior to the 13th Century. The town is especially noted for the five nature reserves in and around the immediate surrounds. A more macabre claim to fame is that Uckfield (Grants Hill House) was the last place Lord Lucan was seen prior to his disappearance. Uckfield is quite an ancient town, and there are many historical sights of interest throughout the immediate area that are worth a visit. Looking carefully at the architecture you may just be able to spot medieval timer framing under the more modern facades!

Treat yourself to a long weekend in a cottage close to Royal Tunbridge Wells or Glyndebourne with a swimming pool or hot! We are constantly amazed by the comfort and space offered to families and guests by these self-catering holiday cottages.

Staying near Uckfield

The cottage holidaymaker will find all the shops they need to larder-fill, as well as a good selection of smaller independent specialist, antique and curios shops. Here is also a leisure centre and swimming pool as well as a cinema, and the pedestrianised Bell Walk shopping precinct, on the banks of the river, is also worth a visit. Near the town (just under 4 miles away – the hardier may care to try walking!) is the Barnsgate Manor Vineyard with its wonderful vineyard (obviously) walks, donkeys and llamas – and a refuelling tea room stop if you do decide to walk there! Wilderness Wood, the Cogcraft Gallery and the Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Museum, each also under 4 miles from the town are also well worth a visit. Ashdown Forest and the South Downs will keep walkers going a pace!

There are many local eateries so self-catering nights off care easy! The Griffin Inn is very friendly and serves wonderful food in a great atmosphere, there is a lovely log fire and lively bar.
