These four barn conversions (refs UK35753, UK35754, UK35755 and UK35755) are set on a delightful working farm in a wonderful position overlooking the River Torridge, the Iron Bridge, and further down river towards Bideford. The barn conversions offer comfortable accommodation for various size parties and are suitable for a holiday at any time of year. The farm nestles at the end of a long private driveway and offers total peace and seclusion in the Devon countryside. There are 200 acres of farmland with The Granary (ref UK35755), The Threshing Barn (ref UK35754) and The Cartlinhay (ref UK35756) having their own private courtyards with garden furniture and barbecues, whilst The Barn (ref UK35753) has a small outdoor space to use. All guests have shared access to a lovely green where dogs can be walked and children can play. There are some lovely woodland walks around the farm itself and the nearby popular Tarka Trail is also close to the farm.
Located just 2 miles from the historic market town of Bideford which is the second largest town in North Devon, there is plenty to see and do. With lots of history and a lovely river front and port, which was once Britain’s third largest, and a popular pannier market, this town is ideal if you want to stay local some days but also perfect as a base to discover the rest of amazing North Devon.
Beaches such as Westward Ho! and Instow are local favourites and are less than 4 miles away, and the South West Coastal Path is a must for keen walkers and runners, as is the popular Tarka Trail which stretches for approximately 180 miles and can be accessed via the east side of the river. It provides the unique opportunity to follow a disused railway line by foot or bicycle, allowing you to enjoy some of Devon’s finest countryside and river views, and enjoy various treats along the way through Instow, Fremington Quay and onto Barnstaple, North Devon’s historical regional centre.
Swimming, surfing, canoeing and entertainment for all the family, plus fishing are all close by and for a day with a difference why not take a trip across to Lundy Island? With regular trips from Bideford, you can enjoy the home to England’s first statutory Marine Nature Reserve, due to its unique flora and fauna. Measuring just 3 miles by ¾ mile, this entire island has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Westward Ho!, the nearest seaside village, offers an array of seaside amenities including some fascinating curiosity shops and a range of restaurants and cafés, many of which are regularly visited by locals for their quality fayre. Within easy reach are two popular top attractions, The Big Sheep amusement farm park and if you fancy some high ropes, wall climbing, surfing or even a spot of coasteering, The Ultimate Adventure Centre is the place to visit! The beaches are a main attraction of this area for many with surfer-friendly Westward Ho! and the lovely estuary village of Instow being within easy reach.
Slightly further afield but within the region, award-winning beaches like Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Croyde are also a must for your itinerary and are all ideal for surfers! Being very close to the A39 Atlantic Highway, Bideford is very conveniently located for day trips to other beautiful places such as Exmoor National Park with it dark skies and locations such as the Valley of the Rocks, Lynton & Lynmouth, Clovelly, Hartland and North Cornwal
Finding it hand to choose - country cottage or coastal holiday cottage? South West England is a great holiday destination. Couples will find dog friendly breaks in Cornwall, Tamar Valley or Devon - some have beaches close by.
