English country holiday cottages to rent

Rent a self-catering holiday cottage in Bedale

The Georgian market town of Bedale is situated almost in the centre of North Yorkshire, not far from Wensleydale, some 34 miles (55 km) north of Leeds and 26 miles (42 km) south-west of Middlesbrough. It has a heritage that stretches right back to the Domesday Book. It is perhaps best known for the Thorp Perrow Arboretum which not only boasts one of the largest collections of shrubs and trees (many of which can be purchased at the centre’s garden shop!) in the North of England, but also one of the region’s largest mammal and bird of prey centres, very well worth a visit. And the town’s 12th century church, St Gregory's, is recognised as one of Britain's best ancient churches.

Visit year round - self-catering accommodation in and around Bedale, Charlcot, Masham, Kirkbridge, and Crakehall. Its a wonderful area with many properties for romantic breaks, family holidays and large group accommodation. Find special offers, short breaks and half term holidays - pet friendly houses allow you to bring your dog on holiday too.

Staying in Bedale and visiting local businesses

Today's Bedale still has its busy weekly market, a variety of unusual owner-managed shops selling an array of women’s fashion, china and gifts, antiques, furniture (custom made) and jewellery. For food loving self-catering visitors, the town’s independent butcher is rather well-regarded, and of course, the local speciality is Wensleydale cheese, all supported by independent Yorkshire beers and locally made real dairy ice cream.

For the more energetic, there are a host of scenic local walks and attractions for all the family. It is also home to the rather grand Bedale Hall, there is a heritage railway and a swimming pool, making it the perfect centre for the self-catering holiday maker.
