This wonderful, detached stone barn conversion has been lovingly transformed into a cottage full of character, charm and history. As you weave your way along the country roads take in the tranquillity as the only sounds you will hear are the bird song and the leaves rustling in the breeze. Beautiful inside and out, you are sure to be delighted as you catch sight of this chocolate box cottage amongst the rolling hills and valleys of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Running up to the entrance is a sweeping gravelled driveway through the lawned garden, enclosed by the surrounding countryside. There is a choice of two living rooms both with the added luxury of crackling wood burning stoves, original beams throughout, a spacious farm house style kitchen and windows taking in the atmospheric rural views. Winter Gill Barn is situated just outside the village of Glaisdale North Yorkshire. Glaisdale is a quaint picturesque village on the edge of the National Park, offering miles of tumbling hills of heather and ancient woodlands.
There are some wonderful rural pubs serving hearty home cooked meals in the surrounding villages, the perfect reward after a hike or cycle. If you wish to enjoy the great outdoors you are in the perfect location. The coastline from Saltburn-by-the-Sea to Filey, is a place of rugged beauty, with many isolated fishing villages such as Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay all just a short drive away. Out on the moors are the picture perfect villages of Hutton Le Hole, Pickering or Helmsley, with its castle and gardens all waiting to be explored. The property is situated just 12 miles from the town of Whitby, with its year round events and festivals such as the Goth Weekend and the Steampunk Weekend. Famous for its link to Dracula, the abbey and its award winning fish and chips, Whitby has something for everyone. For something different you can take a steam train journey into ‘Heartbeat’ country Goathland, or head out to sea from Whitby on a boat trip, where you could see seals and whales.
Ride on horseback, glide over the sea on a paddleboard, or even fly through the tree tops on a zip wire – there are lots of outdoor activities all within an hour’s drive. After a day of exploring, Winter Gill Barn will be the cherry on the cake, ensuring that the property itself is one of the highlights of your holiday. On an evening as you plan the next day’s activities you can all lounge together on the sofas in front of the fire, this spacious property is a great size for a family get together. Out in the national park the skies are illuminated by millions of stars – and take in the views from the Velux windows, watching from the comfort of your bed or even soaking in the bath under the starlight.
