The Sail Loft Apartment is a beautiful apartment situated along the quayside at Whitby and just a short stroll into the centre of town. It is a contemporary apartment tastefully decorated with an open plan living space and views over the quay, a perfect place for a winter short break or a lazy summer holiday. Whitby is bustling all year round and the town centre is full of little independent shops and cafés, and is famous with the locals for the fish and chips. Cobbled streets lead up to Whitby Abbey, the inspiration for the ’Dracula’ novel by Bram Stoker, where you have to climb the 199 steps to reach the top.
The large sandy beach is ideal for children, with donkeys, sandcastles and ice creams making it a traditional seaside resort.
With stunning views out to sea and rambling walks along the coast it’s a walker’s paradise. Whitby forms part of the Cleveland Way, all 109 miles of it covering heather moorland and tiny hamlets. The paths lead you down to small fishing coves and beaches, the walk to Robin Hood’s Bay is definitely worth the effort. Further down the coast there’s Robin Hood’s Bay, a popular village to visit with it’s steep winding road down to the seafront, quaint little fishermen’s houses and excellent rock pooling for the children to enjoy.
There is sea fishing available in Whitby itself from the harbour, from the beaches or by charter boat, although a rod licence is required.
There is coarse (grayling, eel gudgeon and minnows) and trout fishing available on the River Esk at Ruswarp which is only 1½ miles from the apartment. Day tickets (trout season) are available from the boat hire office in Ruswarp.
The North York Moors steam train run from Whitby down through Grosmont and Goathland crossing the heather filled moors to its final destination in the market town of Pickering. There’s lots of little market towns and traditional Yorkshire villages dotted around the area just waiting to be explored. The large seaside resort of Scarborough lies south of Whitby and to the north lies Sandsend and the quaint village of Staithes. Beach 550 yards. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 250 yards
Can't make your mind up - mansion house or cottage on the coast? Yorkshire is a bucket list choice to visit. Couples will find cottages that are pet friendly in Herriot Country, Pennines or Thirsk - some have games rooms.
