Oxfordshire is in the centre of the 'Heart of England', East of Gloucestershire, West of Berks and Bucks and North of Wiltshire and Hampshire. The M40 motorway runs through the county to Warwickshire. A great place to base a visit in middle England, it's easy to hop on a train to lots of places, but the difficulty will be that you may want to stay still! For couples, city apartments and converted stables or self contained cottages are perfect weekend retreats. The Chiltern Hills to the south are beautiful chalky escarpments with lovely vistas across the county. Further west is the North Wessex Downs. Didcot, Wantage, Witney, Carterton, Bicester and Banbury are the main conurbations set amongst some rolling green countryside and pretty villages.
