The village has a well-marked walking trail past the ancient church and 12th-century Rock Hall. With the golden beaches of Newton-by-the-Sea and Embleton less than 5 miles away, there are some fabulous coastal walks to enjoy. Try the popular route past Dunstanburgh Castle and back and enjoy lunch overlooking the sea in the quaint fishing village of Craster, world famous for its smoked kippers and salmon.
Inland, the Northumberland National Park is a stunning area of natural beauty, a paradise for cyclists, bird watchers and anglers. Golfers too are spoilt for choice, being within easy reach of many first class coastal courses. The market town of Alnwick, 5 miles away, is famous for its castle, featured in Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey, and the splendid gardens with the famous treehouse restaurant is well worth a visit. To the north lies the harbour town of Seahouses, where you will find an interesting collection of pubs, restaurants, cafés and great little shops. A traditional working harbour where you can watch the fisherman bringing in the daily catch, take boat trips to the beautiful Farne Islands, and a lovely sandy beach.
