English country holiday cottages to rent

Self-catering holiday cottages in Cowes, Isle of Wight

Cowes, a gateway town to the Isle of Wight, is famous for its August regatta, the oldest in the world and is located on the very north tip of the Isle. The old joke goes “Why do people on the Isle of Wight sometimes never visit the mainland by boat?”; because they prefer Cowes to Ryde (another town on the Isle of Wight). It’s a well-known marine construction location and the place where the first-ever hovercraft was tested. The town is also said to be spiritual home of international yacht racing.

Coastal cottages with wonderful sea views and beautiful beaches within walking distance, for families and large parties. Romantic apartments for self-catering breaks close to the busy Marina on the water’s edge with restaurants and boutique shops - find one below:

Staying in Cowes, the gateway town to the Isle of Wight.

For the shopper, Cowes has some great upmarket shops as well as independent traders and fresh provision shops that make it one of the best shopping centres on the Isle. There are many and varied places to eat as well as great places to buy fresh food – fresh fish, meat and bakery products - for preparing back at your holiday cottage. And while you’re exploring the town and its surrounds, you’ll find some great restaurants, pubs and wine bars to relax in. Naturally enough, given the town’s maritime history and heritage, there are several museums dedicated to boating and yachting that are well worth a visit. And for those with an interest in art, there are several galleries offering work by the islands inhabitant artists.
