Rent self-catering holiday cottages in Isle of Wight near Brighstone

Brightstone – once called Brixton - is a pretty little village on the South West of the Isle, noted for its traditional farmhouses and thatched cottages built from local "clunch" chalk stone. It is famed for the national Trust-owned row of traditional cottages on its well-known North Street that are now the Brighstone Library and Village Museum (free to visit, and worth grabbing a copy of the “Explore Brightstone” map while you are there).

Gorgeous holiday cottages and self-catering accommodation overlooking the sea with views towards the iconic Needles can be rented in this area. A very high standard of accommodation with swimming pools and luxurious features for relaxing holidays are common place in the seaside resorts and fishing villages on Isle of Wight. Large holiday houses get booked well in advance - you'll be lucky to find any discounted rates during the summer - unless its a last minute cancellation! Pubs and local eateries are not usually far away and make it easy for self-caters to have a treat!

Staying near Brighstone

However, don’t let the diminutive size fool you. There are numerous shops to brows and places to eat. For the cottage holiday maker on the Isle of Wight, it’s somewhat of a paradise, with plenty of pathways and bridleways to explore, most offering wonderful views across this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You can walk, ride, cycle, drive, swim or even take to the skies in a paraglider (if you are really adventurous, that is!). There are plenty of sandy beaches to enjoy and the coastline offers wonderful easy cliffs to explore. The 19th Century amateur palaeontologist William Fox (he discovered several dinosaur species in the local bay) lived there, as did Bishop Samuel Wilberforce (he became local rector in 1866) son of the famed anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce.

Before you visit, check out the events calendar for the village, because it hosts several quite large events annually that are worth visiting.
