English country holiday cottages to rent

Self-catering holiday cottages in Malmesbury

Referred to as the “Queen of Hilltop Towns” (it sits on a perfect, flat hill), Malmesbury holds several records, namely, being the oldest continually inhabited town sitting in England’s oldest borough and being home to England’s oldest hotel, the Old Bell (offering hospitality since 1220). The remains of an Iron Age Fort further date the town as a settlement area back to 500BC. It is also famed for the very imposing seventh-century abbey (with its lovely formal gardens and one of the largest collection of roses in England) than dominate the town’s skyline, and the town provides wonderful walks and rambles, perfect for a family holiday or weekend retreat being as it is located on a hill that is almost totally surrounded by water. You don't need to stay in a hotel - relax in luxury self-catering holiday cottages and converted stables in Malmesbury - ideal for small and large group holiday lets.

Staying in Malmesbury

Malmesbury is certainly a beautiful town as a centre for a cottage holiday. Its preserved medieval streets are a pleasure to walk around, shop, eat and drink in, and you’ll want to return again. The Market Cross in the centre of the town, Tower House and Bremilham Church are certainly worth a visit for those with an eye for photography. The town’s most famous current resident is actually a factory at the edge of the town that is the headquarters of the Dyson vacuum cleaner company (hopefully if you are self-catering you wont need to use one!), although some might quote a perhaps more famous former resident of note, King Athelstan, the first king of all England.
