Staying in Royal Wootton Basset, Wiltshire
It’s a quaint town, retain much of the original Georgian architecture on its High Street and offering the cottage holiday self-caterer plenty of places to eat and drink, including a surprisingly wide variety of shops and a market every week, with a farmers’ market held once a month. The town hosts an Arts Festival every June and November, a High Street Festival each August and a Trial Boat event on the old Wilts and Berks Canal which flows through the south of the town. Walkers and anglers will find the beautiful Jubilee Lake a peaceful haven where a great diversity of flora and fauna, ancient trees and magnificent wild flowers. If you get the opportunity, you can take a leisurely hour or two and follow the formal Town Trail. Also worth a visit is the Wootton Bassett Mud Spring, a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest (take care and follow the signs!)
